Introducing Puesto Viejo Polo Days

No trip to Argentina is complete without experiencing the nation’s famous sport. Recognizing the importance of polo for visitors, Puesto Viejo Estancia and Polo Club now offer “Puesto Viejo Polo Days”. Set in the stunning surroundings of the Argentine countryside, Polo Days give tourists the opportunity to learn more about the game, enjoy a lesson with a professional instructor and watch polo club members play in an adrenaline fuelled match.

Argentine born Gaston Carrozzo, has years of polo experience, both teaching and playing the game. Career highlights include working for high goal player David Stirling, playing professionally at clubs in the UK, Argentina and Spain as well as giving lessons to a range of clients across the world including guests of the prestigious Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. His knowledge, expertise and teaching qualifications (he is certified by the Hurlingham Polo Association, the governing body of polo in the UK) combined with his patience and genuine love of the sport, make him the ideal tutor for those trying polo for the first time.

Polo Days Itinerary

10am: Polo Day guests will be collected from the city centre and travel to the province by private car.

11am: Arriving at Puesto Viejo, guests will meet resident polo professional and bi-lingual teacher, Gaston, and enjoy a traditional Argentine mate drink. Gaston will give an overview of the sport before taking guests on a tour of the stables and the estancia.

11.30am: After initial instruction at ground level, clients will then get up on the horses and try polo first hand.

1pm: A delicious lunch of homemade Argentine cuisine will be served under the trees, surrounded by nature and stunning views.

2.30pm: After lunch, guests will have the option to explore the estancia on foot or by bike or perhaps just relax by the infinity pool.

4pm: A second polo lesson or mini match with Gaston will help guests develop the skills they learned in the morning.

5/6pm: Later in the afternoon, guests will watch polo club members and professionals playing a 4 chukker match with Gaston on hand to talk them through what is going on and answer any questions. Guests will also have the option to get more involved in the game, throwing in the ball and ringing the chukker bell, ideal photo opportunities!

7pm: Guests will be taken back to the city, to share their new-found polo knowledge, skills and stories with friends!

PLEASE NOTE: Lesson and match times may change according to the day.

Details

WHEN: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the year.
TIMINGS: Clients will be collected from the city centre at 10am and return at 8pm.
PRICE: US $150 per person (based on a minimum of 2 people)
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: No previous riding experience is required.
EQUIPMENT: All polo equipment will be supplied. Guests should wear comfortable clothing (ideally trousers) and sensible footwear (boots/trainers) Guests wishing to use the pool, should bring towels.
LANGUAGE: Lessons can be taught in Spanish or English.
FOOD AND DRINK: Soft drinks are complimentary throughout the day. Lunch is traditional Argentine cuisine; please inform staff of any dietary requirements prior to arrival. Wine will be served during lunch.
BOOKING PROCEDURE: To confirm a booking, guests must provide credit card details. Payment can be made on the day by credit card (Mastercard, Visa, Amex) or cash (US dollars or Argentine pesos).
CANCELLATION: Cancellations made less than 24 hours before arrival and will be charged in full to the credit card provided at booking stage.
